Blue Hawaii: Elvis Presley – Can’t Help Falling in Love

This Elvis classic was featured in the 1961 Elvis movie Blue Hawaii. Covered by several other artists including Bob Dylan, UB40 and A-Teens, it’s Elvis’ original which is perfect for a couples first dance. The song speaks for itself, the peaceful, romantic lyrics make it a top contender for a first dance song.

The Great Gatsby: Lana Del Rey – Young & Beautiful

Young and beautiful is a song by American singer Lana Del Rey, featured in the 2013 drama film the Great Gatsby. The song lyrics are very self-explanatory; the protagonist is asking his/her partner when their youth and beauty fades away and all that remains is his/her soul, will he/she still be in love with them.

Pulp Fiction: Chuck Berry – Teenage Wedding

We often receive requests from couples for this quirky tune as their first dance song. The Bentley Boys are happy to perform this song, but the dance moves are up to you!

Dirty Dancing: Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes – I’ve Had the Time of My Life

We couldn’t possibly put together a list of movie first dance songs and not include this song, it would be criminal! The song of choice by many first dance viral videos, this upbeat song from the Dirty Dancing soundtrack is impossibly fun and begging to be choreographed. Just be careful with the lift!

Ghost: The Righteous Brothers – Unchained Melody

Written by Alex North and Hy Zaret in 1955, it’s the Righteous Brothers version in 1965 which made this song increasingly popular. Once featured in the 1990 blockbuster Ghost with Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore this song hit the big leagues. 25 years later the ‘Pottery Wheel Scene’ is still an iconic movie moment. This sweet song is a classic first dance song, just leave the pottery wheel at home!

When Harry Met Sally: Harry Connick Jr. – It Had to Be You

This song has appeared in numerous movies throughout the years. We love the big band sound and vocals in Harry Connick Jr’s version for a couples first dance. Couples take comfort in the songs lyrics such as ‘With all your faults I love you still’.

Juno: The Moldy Peaches – Anyone Else But You

This song featured on the  2007 soundtrack for comedy-drama Juno. It’s goofy-sweet, starry-eyed lyrics make this song perfect if you are looking for a unique first dance song. The song hook “I don’t see what anyone can see In anyone else, but you” perfectly reflects the sentiment of a first dance.

Batman Forever: Seal – Kiss from a Rose

Seal’s kiss from a rose won  Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance at the 1996 Grammy Awards. Its inclusion on the Batman Forever soundtrack in 1995 led to its increase in popularity. The song’s poetic, soft, and romantic lyrics capture the occasion of a wedding and first dance superbly.

Stardust: Take That – Rule The World

Released from the band’s fourth studio album Beautiful World in 2006, the song did incredibly well in the UK Charts. This ballad is great as a first dance song, it’s full of  passion in both its lyrics and melody. Also Gary Barlow may surprise you and perform the song at your wedding, he seems to have a habit of doing that?!

Once: Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova – Falling Slowly

Once (2007) is an Irish musical film from which the song ‘Falling Slowly’ won the 2007 Academy Award for Best Original Song. This quiet, touching song’s haunting harmonies make it a popular choice for couples getting married.
